Description
Amongst the avalanche of watches released every year, there are only an extreme minority that rise above the rest and enter the collective consciousness. Fewer still become instant collectables that will be sought after for as long as watch collecting exists. This IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar produced in collaboration with CEO of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team Toto Wolff is one such watch. The watch’s incredibly attractive and unique looks coupled with the insane technicality of the mechanism inside make it one of the most compelling offerings on the market, but the added historical significance and the fact that it’s a limited edition of only 100 pieces make this is a timepiece that is truly transcendent. It sold out instantly upon release, and when Toto Wolff’s personal version of this watch hit the auction block it hammered for around £200,000 when including auction fees. As far as we can tell, only one other of these watches have ever hit the market outside of that auction, making this an extraordinarily rare opportunity to acquire one of the most important watches ever released. Powering the watch is one of the most innovative movements in all of watchmaking. The in-house calibre 52615 features bi-directional pellaton automatic winding system, twin-barrel 7-days power reserve with indicator on the dial, perpetual calendar with day/date/month/year indicators, moonphase indicator and small hacking seconds. Crucially, all this complexity can be set directly via the crown, making it one of the most simple and user friendly perpetual calendar watches on the market. The beauty of the movement is visible directly from the front of the watch through the transparent sapphire dial, and from the opposite via the sapphire display case-back. The luminous hour markers and hands appear in the Formula 1 team’s signature Petronas green. It’s all housed in a uniquely selected Pantone black Ceratanium case, a special material developed by IWC that mixes the weight benefits of titanium with the scratch-resistance of ceramic, giving the watch an ultra-modern look and superb wearability. The watch is fitted on a black rubber strap with textile inlay on the outer and matching Ceratanium buckle to complete the look. The watch is in brand-new, unworn condition, with the original factory protective sticker still on the caseback. The watch comes as a complete set with box and papers. The watch has been tested and inspected for performance and is in excellent working condition. Hailwood Peters guarantees the watch for authenticity. The original manufacturer's warranty is valid until December 2030.
