Description
For your consideration is this rare and attractive timepiece from one of the most esteemed independent watchmaking brands, Laurent Ferrier. The founder and namesake of the brand worked at Patek Philippe for 40 years before founding his brand, bringing with him a lifetime of experience at the highest echelon of watchmaking. Incredibly, Patek wasn't even the first place he worked! It was no simple task getting his brand off the ground. Laurent Ferrier set about creating a timepiece that was equal to Patek in quality, but with his own unique design DNA. Of course, such a thing is easier said than done. Having existed for over 250 years, Patek Philippe literally has centuries worth of accumulated know-how and massive resources behind it. It's no secret that Laurent Ferrier had a tough first few years, but now it's safe to say they've achieved what they set out to do, and in doing so have become one of the most in-demand brands on the planet. The deep blue dial features a vertical satin brushed finish, with a concentric waves "azurage" pattern on the seconds sub-dial. The hands are in LF's trademark "Assegai" style and are made from white gold. They are then white painted to match the hour and minute markers, giving the watch excellent legibility. It's all housed in a stainless steel case with a curved form factor, where every element neatly flows into the next. Fitted to the watch is a Laurent Ferrier blue alligator leather strap with Laurent Ferrier folding clasp. Powering the watch is the FBN calibre 229.01 featuring automatic winding via its 18-carat yellow gold micro-rotor, 72 hour power reserve and silicon natural escapement which serves to give the watch superb timekeeping performance at all stages of winding. Every movement component is painstakingly hand-finished, making it every bit as beautiful on an aesthetic level as it is on a technical one.
