Description
This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph is an extremely rare and highly attractive version of one of the world’s most iconic high-grade watches. For serious collectors and those looking to take their watch game to the next level, this timepiece is a must have. Audemars Piguet has a reputation of making watches that err on the larger size, but this timepiece sized at 38mm allows those with wrists both small and large to enjoy a Royal Oak Chronograph on the wrist. In person, the watch does appear larger than its dimensions suggest. On a small wrist the watch wears comfortably but is still visually significant. On a large wrist, the watch wears larger than watches like the Rolex Daytona (40mm) and Omega Speedmaster (42mm). In our opinion, this sizing makes it much more versatile as it can be worn in a wider variety of situations, as opposed to the larger 41+mm versions of the watch which can look out of place in more formal settings. The sharp, perfectly polished facets on the case and bracelet constantly play with the light, as does the white pantograph dial which features an incredible amount of detail when viewed closely. The folding clasp neatly folds inside the bracelet and makes the watch seem like one truly integrated unit on the wrist. In hand, the quality of the overall construction is immediately apparent. The watch is built like a tank and incredibly solid. Powering the watch is the AP calibre 2385 features automatic winding, 40-hour power reserve, quick-set date and column-wheel + vertical clutch operated chronograph mechanism. The movement is one of the thinnest fully-integrated automatic chronograph movements in the world and is hand-finished to an extremely high standard. Though not an “officially certified” chronometer (AP doesn’t send their watches for certification), the movement is adjusted in five positions and has excellent timekeeping performance that matches or betters most officially certified chronometers.
