Description
There isn’t a single serious watch enthusiast that doesn’t dream of owning a Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock at some point in their life. The Atmos is one of mankind’s greatest inventions and has fascinated the horologically-inclined ever since it was unveiled in 1928. The clock doesn’t defy physics, but it’s perhaps the closest thing on Earth to realising perpetual motion in practice. The Atmos is a completely mechanical torsion pendulum clock, but unlike a standard clock or watch it isn’t powered by weights or a tensioned spring. A sealed capsule in the clock is filled with a mixture of gases that expand and contract with variations in temperature, and a change in ambient temperature of only one degree within 24 hours is enough to power the clock for two days (generally speaking). The Atmos has become known as the “President’s Clock”, even though its list of owners goes far beyond just politicians. Some famous owners include Queen Elizabeth, Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy and Pope John Paul II. Can you imagine a more fitting clock for these characters? The way in which the entire mechanism can be viewed and admired through the 5 glass panels and the way in which it operates in almost total silence makes it the perfect desk clock. In every sense, the Atmos clock is the symbol of Swiss clockmaking. This Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos V reference 526-5 is a beautifully preserved example of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s legendary clock. The clock has a 29x,xxx serial number dating it to around late 60’s/early 70’s. The case measures in at 22 x 18 x 13.5cm. The clock also comes with an original Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos travel case making transporting the clock a breeze and giving it a protective home when not in use. The clock has just had a complete service and restoration by Andrew Markerink of Master Clockmakers and accordingly is in excellent working condition. Please note: Our usual shipping terms do not apply on this clock.
