Description
For your consideration is this rare and attractive Moritz Grossman Atum Enamel limited edition timepiece. Only 25 pieces in white gold were produced, and each example is individually numbered. It's a watch that showcases the best of fine German watchmaking. The watch features a stunning white Grand-feu enamel dial with printed Roman numeral hour markers and minute track. Hovering over the dial, the hand-crafted lance-shaped hands are flame annealed to a brown-violet hue (almost impossible to capture in pictures, but very obvious in person). Visible through the sapphire caseback is the brand's in-house calibre 100.1 which features an incredible array of finishes and classic watchmaking features. The list is so long that we'll just quote the brand's website description directly: Grossmann balance; lateral pusher for disabling the handsetting mode and starting the movement; space saving and modified Glashütte stopwork with backlash; adjustment with Grossmann micrometer screw on a cantilevered balance cock; Pillar movement with 2/3 plate and frame pillars in untreated German silver; 2/3 plate, balance cock, and escape-wheel cock engraved by hand; broad horizontal Glashütte ribbing; 3-band snailing on the ratchet wheel; raised gold chatons with pan-head screws; separately removable clutch winder; stop seconds for handsetting; shock-absorbed Grossmann balance with 4 inertia and 2 poising screws, Nivarox 1 balance spring with No. 80 Breguet terminal curve, Gerstenberger geometry. The watch's most curious feature is the setting and stop-seconds feature operated via the crown and the button underneath it. Unlike most watches, when you pull the crown out on this watch, it doesn't stay out, but rather, it bounces right back into places. The effect of pulling the crown out is that it stops the seconds hand and the hands can be set by turning the crown. In order to start the watch again, simply press the button and off it goes. This system allows for more precise time-setting, but more importantly it's just a fun and interesting throw-back to traditional watchmaking. This system of time setting was first found on early crown-set pocket watches.
