Description
For your consideration is this extremely rare and iconic Rolex Explorer II that dates to 1975. The reference 1655 Explorer II was first released in 1971 and was aimed at speleologists (cave explorers) who would work in darkness for extended periods of time and could lose track of day and night. In practice, the watch was embraced by those who travelled a lot as being able to track what 24-hour period you’re in when moving between timezones can be extremely helpful. That, and the fact that the watch is built like a tank, able to stand up to whatever life throws at it. A must-have for vintage Rolex enthusiasts, this reference marked the beginning of an era and has a unique design that has not been repeated since its discontinuation in 1984 As with all vintage Rolex, the small details are extremely important. This particular version has a Mark 2 dial with Mark 3 bezel - all correct for its particular year of manufacture. The watch is preserved in good condition commensurate with its age, showing signs of wear but with a solid and thick case profile. The watch has just had a complete service and accordingly is in excellent working condition. The service included a complete movement service and regulation as well as new case seals and plexiglass in order to ensure the watch’s water-resistance. Hailwood Peters guarantees the watch for authenticity. Hailwood Peters provides a one-year warranty on the watch.
