Description

The Rolex Sea-Dweller was first launched in 1967 and was waterproof to a depth of 1,200 meters (4,000 feet). In 2008, the Deepsea was introduced. It was tested to withstand the pressures to an astonishing depth of 3,900 meters (12,800 feet), tripling the water resistance of the Sea-Dweller. The bar was now raised for all other deep-sea explorer watches – few other watches are capable of dropping in on the Titanic at 3,800 metres below the ocean.

This particular example is the "James Cameron" version of the Deepsea, with the gradient blue-black dial.

To test the Deepsea, Rolex collaborated with Compagnie Maritime d’Expertises (COMEX) to develop a specialised ‘test tank’ capable of simulating the high pressures experienced at depths of 3,000 plus meters (3 kilometres).

The Rolex Deepsea is often considered to be the ultimate diving companion – a finely engineered divers timepiece that borders on perfection. This is a serious piece of diving kit, but it can certainly double up as a wearable and comfortable daily.

This Deepsea comes on its original full-size Oyster Steel bracelet, a robust bracelet with both form and function. The bracelet is fitted with an Oysterlock clasp to prevent accidental opening and a Glidelock system that allows fine adjustments enabling it to be easily configured (no tools needed) to wear over a diving suit.

Other features include Chromalight luminescent hour markers and hands, screw down Trip-lock crown, Helium escape valve, unidirectional rotatable 60-minute Cerachrom bezel and a 5.5 mm thick sapphire crystal.

The watch comes as a complete set with box and papers.

Condition

The watch is in overall very good condition. The most obvious signs of wear are two dents on the bezel around the 8 o'clock mark.
