Description
This TAG Heuer Carrera is a limited edition of only 188 pieces that was released on the occasion of the brand’s honorary chairman Jack Heuer’s 88th birthday. Highly symbolic and stunningly beautiful, it is a thoroughly modern watch that takes its inspiration from a gold vintage Carrera that was Jack Heuer’s favourite watch. A very clever marker of the occasion can be seen at the 6 o’clock position on the dial. Two applied 8 digits placed on their side and stacked on top of each other, simultaneously representing Jack Heuer’s birthday and the infinity symbols, signifying the brand’s perpetual commitment to pushing the boundaries. And that is to say nothing of the auspicious nature of the numbers, representing luck, wealth and the cycle of life. The design of the dial is ingenious in that it has three sub indications on it - chronograph hour counter at 9 o’clock, minutes counter at 3 o’clock and running seconds hand at 3 o’clock - and yet, at first glance the watch appears to be a bi-compax chronograph (which only have two sub-dials and forego having a seconds indication). At the 6 o’clock position we also see a date display. TAG Heuer has managed to pack additional features into the watch while retaining the symmetry and elegance of the dial. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the watch’s design. The solid rose gold case features a satin finish on its sides and mirror polished gloss finish on its front-facing surfaces. A matching rose-gold screw-down crown helps ensure the watch’s water resistance up to 100 metres. The caseback is engraved with the watch’s limited edition number "N°X/188”. Powering the watch is the automatic Heuer calibre 02 with 80 hour power reserve and column-wheel chronograph. The movement can be seen through the sapphire caseback, where we see the oscillating rotor bearing Jack Heuer’s signature and motto “Time never stops, why should we?”, tying the watch's theme of perpetuity together. The watch is fitted with a black alligator-leather strap in brand-new, unworn condition. The strap is embossed on the inner side with Jack Heuer's signature. As the last member of the Heuer family to run the company, Jack Heuer’s contributions to the brand were legendary and he was responsible for turning the brand into the household name it is today. As a life-long lover of automotive sports, it was Jack Heuer’s own passion that cemented the brand’s iconic status in the motorsports world, and the Carrera model itself was named and designed entirely by him.
