Description
For your consideration is this extraordinarily rare and attractive grand complication timepiece from Vacheron Constantin. It is part of their “Collection Excellence Platine“, and was released in 2008 as a limited edition of 50 individually numbered pieces. It has a platinum 3 part case, soldered on Maltelugs, sapphire display back and quick-set pusher buttons on the side of the case for all functions. The dial itself is made from actual platinum (indicated by the 950P marking between 4-5 o'clock) and has a sand-blast finish, painted external minute track, 18K white gold Maltese cross, 18K white gold applied hour markers and 18K white gold hands. The moon phase indication is also rendered from actual platinum and features two hand-engraved moons (note the different facial expressions in the photos). Functions include running small seconds, moon-phase indicator, column-wheel operated chronograph function with minute counter, and perpetual calendar with date, day, month and leap-year indicators. Unlike VC's later perpetual calendar chronographs, this movement does not bear the Poinçon de Genève. However, that absence should not be mistaken for a lower standard. The movement was manufactured outside the Canton of Geneva in Vallée de Joux (the heart of Swiss watchmaking), making it ineligible for the seal under the regulations of the time, despite being finished and assembled to the exact same technical and decorative standards expected of the prestigious hallmark. In many respects, it makes this particular calibre even rarer as it represents the last generation of Vacheron Constantin’s traditionally finished Lemania-based grand complication movements before the collection transitioned to poinçon de Genève successors. It is fitted on a VC blue alligator leather with matching platinum folding clasp that features a half Maltese cross motif.

The watch comes as a complete set with box and papers. Also included are Vacheron Constantin service papers from December 2021 and a VC travel pouch.
Condition
The watch had a complete service done by Vacheron Constantin in December 2021, and appears to have not been worn since. The strap, case and clasp present in superb, essentially unworn condition.
